LAHORE (July 20 2010): Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) has flayed Ministry of Industry & Production for submitting summery to Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet, for allowing commercial import of used car. These sentiments were expressed in a meeting of Executive Committee.
The members feared that acceptance of any proposal to import reconditioned auto vehicles will crush the local automobile as well as vendor industry and turn the country in junkyard of old vehicles. PAAPAM apprehended the import of used vehicles in any shape will curtail process of value addition in the industry and deletion level achieved so far and investment of billions of rupees will go waste.
The Executive Committee further observed that on one hand government is running from pole to pillar for getting loans on harsh conditions, while on the other hand intend to waste hard earned foreign exchange on import of used vehicles. The members suggested that government should encourage local auto industry for achieving self-reliance and adopt austerity measures.
