ECC to take decision for curtailing prices of motor cars

PESHAWAR: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in its upcoming meeting to be held next week will review measures and take decision on the basis of recommendations presented by concerned committee for curtailing prices of auto cars in the country.

This was said by Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani while talking with newsmen after attending a briefing on the performance of Pakistan Hunting and Sporting Arms Development Company (PHSADC).

Chairman PHSADC, Nauman Wazir made a briefing on working of Hunting and Sporting Arms Company.

Federal Minister said government will review all the recommendations presented by a committee constituted by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and take decision that benefit the interest of consumers.

He said during the last meeting of ECC, the issue of high price of locally manufactured vehicles was raised and the Prime Minister constituted a special committee to conduct a market survey, meet stakeholders and suggest measures for providing relief.

The committee, he continued, has prepared its report and submitted for perusal of the ECC members in its upcoming meeting.

About the measures recommended by committee, Federal Minister apprised that these included allowing import of used cars up to three or five years old, allowing more auto companies from Korea and China to install production plants in Pakistan, reduction of duties and imposing restriction on already installed units for reducing prices.

He said government will take such a decision which benefits the interest of consumers.
