KPCCI rejects new Afghan transit trade agreement

PESHAWAR (July 20 2010): Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KPCCI) has rejected new Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA) between Pakistan and Afghanistan and asked the government to remove the reservations of the business community in this regard.

Addressing a press conference here at Chamber House on Monday, president KPCCI, Riaz Arshad called for taking all stakeholders into confidence before the finalisation of the final draft of the treaty. He said that the agreement has hit the confidence of the business community of Pakistan as it had ignored their reservations and recommendations presented in the parliament. "The agreement is signed hurriedly and benefit only India and Afghanistan," said president KPCCI. The KPCCI chief said that India can transport its goods to Central Asia and Afghanistan through air as Delhi-Jalalabad flight is just of 40 minutes and the agreement will further provide her access to the Central Asian Market.
